নাৎসি জার্মানিতে হিটলারের প্রচারমন্ত্রী ছিলেন জোসেফ গোয়েবলস (Joseph Goebbels)। তিনি এরকম একটি উক্তি করছিলেন বলে বেশ প্রচার থাকলেও উক্তিটি আসলেই তার কিনা তা নিশ্চিত করা যায়নি। মনে করা হয় এটি ছিল জার্মানির ‘বিগ লাই’ নামে পরিচিত প্রচারণা কৌশলেরই একটি রূপ।
তবে ১৯৪১ সালে ‘চার্চিলের মিথ্যার কারখানা থেকে’ শিরোনামে (From Churchill's Lie Factory) প্রকাশিত একটি নিবন্ধে জোসেফ গোয়েবলস ব্রিটিশদের বিরুদ্ধে মিথ্যাচারের অভিযোগ আনেন; তিনি লেখেন, “The essential English leadership secret does not depend on particular intelligence. Rather, it depends on a remarkably stupid thick-headedness. The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous”।
