Almost every mobile phones, mobile communication devices and satellite phones have a unique number which is called International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number.
This number is used to identify a specific device. If the device is stolen, it’s possible to blacklist that device so that it can’t be used in any network. It is possible to de-blacklist again if that is found. So it’s better to preserve device cover or packet which contains the IMEI number because this number is also printed on a sticker inside the device. Almost every device shows IMEI number after dialing *#06#. Some device also supports menu function, so you can see the IMEI from the ‘about’ menu.
