In fact only ‘Kushum’ was her name. It’s very unusual in Bangladeshi context. When she was studying at Mohammadpur Preparatory School, everyone knew her as ‘Kushum’. But when it was the time for SSC form fill up, family name ‘Shikder’ was added to her name. Now everyone knows her as Kushum Shikder.
She emerged in the showbiz arena as a singer. Four of her music album including ‘Tumi Aj Koto Dure’, ‘Jeboner Joto Chaoa’ and ‘Adol Bdol’ was released.
But in the year 2002 she participated in Lux Ms. Photogenic competition and won the first prize. This competition changed her career. She became a popular model, TV actress and film actress. She worked for many television commercials including Lux, Lipton Taza, Banglalink. She became a very popular television actress by some highly praised dramas like ‘Tin Purush’, ‘Meghbalika’ and ‘Noukadubi’.
‘Lal Tip’ was Kushum’s first film. She was little concerned that whether audience will accept a performer of small screen in silver screen. But she was highly appreciated for her performance in the film. Then she acted in some other films including ‘Gohine Shobdo’ and ‘Mehernigar’.
Her husband L Islam is a pilot. Kushum’s eye has both cylindrical and spherical problem. She always needs eyeglass. During the shooting when she is acting for a character that is not using eyeglass, it creates funny problem. Sometimes she forgets in which direction the camera is.
Kushum thinks quality of Bangladeshi television drama is declining. She is concentrating on film. Now film is the only dream of her.
